Our Toronto office is looking for a full-time contract Construction Inspector/Site Representative to join our team working on a large construction project at a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) located in GTA. The tentative term of the contract is expected to be from approximately November 2018 to April 2021.

The project in questions includes major treatment tankage and equipment, a large pumping station, significant electrical and mechanical systems and installation of a piping network in-ground and within existing service galleries.  The project is an upgrade to an existing treatment plant which will need to be kept in operation.

Duties:

Site inspection duties for upgrades at a wastewater treatment plant include the following:

  • Carry out daily inspections and prepare daily inspection reports, summarizing all daily progress, identifying deficiencies of work and corrective action taken.
  • Conduct daily quantity measurements.
  • Keep records of all pertinent quality control records, including but not limited to soils, granular material, concrete, concrete aggregates and structures quality.
  • Keep records of hot mix, hot mix aggregates, bituminous materials, grading, drilling, water taking, etc.
  • Keep records of pipe installation, including tracking of all pipe joints installations, including UTM coordinates of all joints, confirmation of mechanical restraints installed and testing where applicable.
  • Monitor /audit records of the contractor's quality control plan.
  • Review engineering drawings and contract documents.
  • Monitor and report on Contractor's progress through photographic and record keeping.
  • Record drawings illustrating constructed deviations from the original drawings.
  • Produce a complete set of as-recorded drawings.
  • Attend and facilitate project meetings, assist with preparing meeting notes, as required.
  • Respond to site inquiries/request or information.
  • Review and process contract extra work claims.
  • Prepare and process monthly progress payments.
  • Communicate with the RVA's Contract Administrator, Project Manager, RVA disciplines and 3rd party inspection/testing firms.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors and the public as required.
  • Undertake site inspection duties are required.
  • Adhere to all site safety requirements and regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Civil Tech diploma OR an undergraduate degree in Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Superior English communication skills both oral and written.
  • Minimum 10 years of site inspection experience for construction/upgrades of wastewater or water facilities of similar scope and complexity. Experience should include projects with a construction value in excess of $15M that are multidisciplinary in nature, comprising major earthworks and shoring systems, yard piping, large process mechanical and electrical systems. 
  • Familiarity with testing and commissioning processes and systems constructed by the contractor.
  • Must have a valid class G driver's license.
  • Must possess own vehicle for transportation between office and assigned worksite.
  • Intermediate to Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
